Many and varied types and styles. Older versions have a carbonised roll as the medium for printing. Later versions have an inkjet cartridge printing on A4 paper and state-of-the-art models incorporate a laser print engine.
Faxes suffer from a lot of paper dust and type-over white paint (Tippex etc.) and debris over the scanner - this results in the recipient getting poor quality faxes from you, although you wouldn't be aware of this unless they mentioned it.
