Expensive ! but brilliant reproduction and the colours don't 'run' like they do with inkjets. If you are thinking of investing in a Colour Laser Printer, check carefully the comparative costs of toners between different manufacturers. There are 4 colour toners needed -cyan-yellow-magenta-black...known as CYMK. Some manufacturers make the black toner larger than the others because it will get used more - good idea from a costs viewpoint. Don't be swayed either by a 'small footprint' meaning the printer is tidy on your desk; smaller printer usually means smaller toner cartridges and they run out quicker. It is most economical to retain the same mechanical bits of the toner cartridge for the largest box of toner powder possible- each time you have to change a toner you throw away these mechanical bits as well - expensive.
Hewlett Packard manufacture excellent quality Colour laser Printers -
HP manufacture excellent quality colour laser printers..but the original and brilliant 4550, has given way to a host of newer and cheaper models. These have become progressively more flimsy and 'plasticy' and it has to be said they are cheaper initially and print with superb colour rendition. Ok they only cost £200 plus but when they fail, just out of warranty it isn't so easy then to 'junk' them and it is so horribly eco UNfriendly.
If your are looking for high quality A3 sized colour laser printers - we can supply little-used refurbished models at a fraction of new printer costs.
Again we will give you free impartial advice on this subject.
postscript Jan 2010...
The past year has seen a major shift in manufacturers' ploys to get you the customer to part with even more money. They have 'twigged' the customers' preference for a small 'footprint' on the desk and what appears to be new very 'reasonable' purchase prices for the printers. Nothing could be further from the truth. Up to now, colour printers presented with four colour toner carts. typically 4 or 5 thousand pages per toner (colour) and 5k for the black toner. The new printers typically come with little 2.5k toners that slide in and out of the printer in a nifty compact little tray. You will end up changing these like smarties...they are much too small and over the life cycle of the printer you will end up paying a mint. We point this out to would-be customers and we will not supply any such printer with miniature toners. Furthermore, there are well established manufacturers who require you to change the photoconductor AND the transfer belt after every 50k pages - these are massive overheads on top of the toner costs to a potential customer. Do your research before buying a new colour printer and if you are planning on keeping it for 3 years or more, pay scant attention to the loss-leader ticket price of the box in the first instance.
