Buy the original manufacturer's printer inks and printer consumables, especially toners, if you want a hassle free life. There are many companies out there whose business is providing 'remanufactured' toners at a significant cost savings over originals. The trick is to know which toner 'remanufacturer' provides you with a quality item. The typical route for a reman toner is this: when the toner is spent, the customer tosses it into a big box, often from a distance ! When the box is stuffed with all sorts of toners and inks, it is chucked into the back of a van and when the van-man has done the rounds of the city all the toner boxes are dispatched in a pallet to the reman assembly line. The toner is now split open (it was never meant to be...) and refilled. 'Good' remans replace the OPC drum and blade and to a lesser extent the vitally important seals. They are subject to a 'visual', then tested on a very dirty rig printer. If the print is ok, they are packed in a nice clean bag and box and they are on their way back to you. At no time during this process are the toners packed or protected from impact damage. Piled high in a 'doner' box and chucked in the back of a van and pallet are a recipe for damage and failure to cogs, shutters, springs and seals.
We shouldnt be 'knocking' the process really, because a huge proportion of our calls for printer repairs are due to use of 'remanufactured' toners fouling up the printer's mechanisms.
